FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Resetting limp mode using our Truck Help tool is as safe as using a professional diagnostic equipment. Truck Help limp mode reset tool uses manufacturers diagnostic protocols and does not in any way interfere or modify any of the electronic control units in the vehicle. Our Truck Help limp mode reset tool uses special algorithms to clear faults and reset limp mode just as dealer level diagnostic tool would and is 100% safe to use.

It is hard to tell how long will it take for limp mode to come back. Using our Truck Help limp mode reset tool will allow you to reset limp mode and instantly return vehicle to full power, but obviously this will not fix the actual problem. It will temporarily reset limp mode, which will come back again at which point you will need to use Truck Help tool to reset it again.. How long will it take for limp mode to come back will depend an many factors such as vehicle make, model, what errors/faults are active and how long they have been active, manner of driving etc..

Yes, you can reset limp mode with our Truck Help device or with dealer level diagnostic tool. Just as diagnostic tool, our Truck Help limp mode reset tool uses special algorithms to clear errors and temporarily reset limp mode returning your vehicle to full power instantly. This is a plug & play device that simply plugs into OBD port in your vehicle so there is no need for any additional equipment and no special skills required. Once plugged in, Truck Help limp mode reset tool will automatically do the job and your vehicle will be back to full power within a minute.

When limp mode kicks in, engine power/performance will be limited to 20 MPH so you will feel it for sure. Once this happens, we recommend you look for a safe place to stop immediately as operating heavy goods vehicle in limp mode, especially if you are loaded, will be very difficult and in some cases may even be dangerous..

Limp mode also know as limp home mode is a feature in vehicles which activates when engine or transmission electronic control unit picks up/registers a fault. In most cases limp mode is triggered due to fault within the emissions system. Once fault is detected vehicle ECU will trigger limp mode which means your engine power/performance will be limited to 20 MPH speed.

Yes. It is illegal to disable adblue in any vehicle that is used on public roads in the UK or the EU. Using vehicle that had adblue system disabled could result in fine or/and prosecution.

Adblue emulators are legal to use only in countries where European emission standards do not apply. Adblue emulator usage in vehicles that are used on public roads in the UK and the EU is strictly illegal.

There are not many adblue emulators available for vans. There are some products out there for some of the most popular vans such as MB Sprinter or Iveco Daily models, but adblue emulators for vans are not popular yet and very few manufacturers make these.

Adblue emulators are mainly made for trucks and other heavy goods vehicles and machinery. We do not know of any manufacturer that is making adblue emulators for cars and we have not seen any yet on the market. This may change in the near future, but for now there seems to be very few adblue emulators for cars available on the market.

Yes, there are adblue emulators for buses. Adblue systems in buses will, in most cases, be the same or similar to those in trucks and therefor most emulators that would fit a truck will also fit a bus. For example, buses like Solaris, Otokar, Foton Auman, King Long etc.. are all based on Cummins engine and emission system and therefor our Cummins adblue emulator for trucks would work perfectly on these buses too. Or if we take buses like Setra or Citaro, these are run by Mercedes engines and our Mercedes adblue emulators will work on these buses just as well as they would on a Mercedes truck..

In summary, we cannot claim there is an adblue emulator for every bus make and model out there, but we are confident we can provide a solution for many. Please get in touch to confirm possibilities.

Yes, adblue emulators are available for some agricultural vehicles. Some of the most popular makes that we can help with are:

JCB, Claas, Case, New Holland and others.. Please get in touch to confirm possibilities.

Yes, adblue emulators are available for some construction vehicles. Some of the most popular makes that we can help with are:

Volvo Penta, Volvo CE, Isuzu, Hitachi, CAT, Doosan, Hyundai, Ponsse and others.. Please get in touch to confirm possibilities.

You cannot run a lorry without adblue. If you run out of adblue while driving, your vehicle will enter limp mode this way reducing engine power and performance. Once you stop, in most cases you will not be able to start the vehicle again until you fill up with adblue and you may also need to clear error codes before your vehicle can be started and limp mode removed.

Installing a good quality adblue emulator or having adblue deleted by a proper remapping specialist should not affect your vehicle’s performance in any way.

No, you should never put water instead of adblue. Adblue liquid mixture is made of urea and de-ionised water. Normal/tap water has a lot of minerals and ions which are very harmful to the vehicle exhaust treatment system and will cause components within this system failing.

This is a hard question to answer. In general, we would probably prefer adblue emulator as this can be simply removed anytime in the future and your vehicle will be back to default state. Also, adblue emulator does not change or interfere with ECU maps in any way and therefor there is no chance of anything going wrong with the electronic control units.

Adblue delete process is modifying ECU file by deleting the required maps, this is also a safe option of deleting/disabling adblue, but way more complicated and should only be done by remapping professionals. Although this is perfectly safe and reliable when done by a true professional, a lot can go wrong here so please choose your remapping specialist carefully.

Good quality adblue emulator will not do any harm to your lorry. However, we have witnessed some cases where vehicle electronic control units failed due to cheap Chinese adblue emulators being installed. Therefor, it is important to choose your adblue emulator wisely, saving a little on the actual emulator itself may cause big problems in the future.

Although good quality emulator will not cause any harm to your vehicle, there is a chance it may affect some of the components within the adblue system. For example, there may be parts, such as adblue pump, which are cooled by adblue liquid flowing through them and therefor these may fail due to no adblue liquid being used for a long period of time. There may also be parts, such as adblue injectors, which require adblue to constantly flow through them or they will clog up. So in summary, should you wish to remove adblue emulator in the future and return SCR system to working order, you may find that some of the parts within the SCR system (these are mainly adblue pump and adblue injector) may need further repair/maintenance to get them back to working condition. The longer you vehicle was run with adblue system disconnected the bigger the chance that these parts will need some attention.

Yes, adblue emulators are available for some tractors and other agricultural transport/machinery. Disconnecting adblue or other components within the emissions control system in these vehicles is possible by installing adblue emulator as well as by deleting such MAPS from the ECU file. Please get in touch to confirm possibilities.

No, a lorry equipped with SCR system cannot run without adblue liquid or with adblue tank empty. In most vehicles, if you run out of adblue while driving your vehicle will enter limp mode with engine’s power and performance being reduced to limit the emissions. Once you’ve stopped, in most cases you will not be able to start the engine again.

First warning sign will be DPF Full or emissions warning light coming up on your dashboard. The best thing to do when this happens is to get on the motorway or open road for a good 20 minute blast this way allowing for passive regeneration to take place. Not running regeneration or cleaning the filter manually will result in it filling up with soot beyond an acceptable level at which point your vehicle will enter limp mode and therefor vehicle will be limited to 20 mph speed limit until this issue is solved.

DPF is an important part of emissions control systems in vehicles and is fitted to conform to European emissions regulations. It traps the particulate matter/soot which otherwise would be emitted into atmosphere, therefor It is illegal to use vehicle on public roads with DPF filter disconnected. It may be legal in countries where no EURO emissions control laws exist, but it is not legal in the UK or the EU.

Yes, it is recommended to remove DPF filter in EURO 6 standard vehicles after installing adblue emulator. As actual regeneration will not take place with emulator installed, your DPF filter will get blocked in time should you not remove it. If DPF is not removed you will need to clean DPF filter every time regeneration comes up or perform forced regeneration process, which can be started using dealer level diagnostic equipment.

When adblue emulator is installed, full regeneration will not take place, Can Smart emulator does emulate regeneration process, but this is only virtual emulation, physical/actual regeneration process will not run. You will need to run ‘forced regeneration’ or clean your DPF filter every so often if it stays in after installing adblue emulator.

Diesel engines produce soot, also called a particulate matter. Although it is very small/fine it is still very harmful. DPF filter will collect this soot, which will then have to be emptied at regular intervals. This is done by burning it off at a very high temperature – this process is called regeneration.

Regeneration happens as follows:

DPF Passive Regeneration:

Passive regeneration was designed to burn off the soot whilst vehicle is on the move. Passive regeneration will occur once exhaust temperature reaches around 500°C and the vehicle needs to constantly travel at speeds of over 40 mph for about 15-20 minutes. Passive regeneration was designed for and will take place on heavy goods vehicles which are used for long distance/motorway journeys, it will not activate if vehicle is used for stop-start driving – short journeys where the engine does not get up to required temperature.

DPF Active Regeneration:

Active regeneration is a process when extra fuel is injected automatically into the exhaust as the filter reaches an approximately 45%-50% full limit. The extra fuel raises the temperature of the exhaust and burns off the stored soot. Active regeneration is particularly useful when vehicle is not used to drive long distances, extra fuel injection helps bringing temperature up as it would not get there itself with vehicle being used for short journeys only.

There is also a process called manual regeneration. This type of regeneration can only be done when the vehicle is stationary. The check engine and/or emissions light (s) will illuminate on the vehicle dashboard, usually after an extended period of idling. Driver must set the parking brake and enable the parked regeneration to begin. Engine RPM will increase and extra fuel will be injected into the exhaust gas at the exit of the engine to generate the appropriate regeneration temperatures.

Yes, DPF can be disabled in most vehicles. This can be done by installing DPF/AdBlue emulator or by modifying ECU file and removing DPF map from it. There are adblue emulators that will disconnect/emulate all of the emission systems in the vehicle, such as SCR, NOX, DPF and there are also emulators that would only emulate DPF only. Same goes for DPF delete remapping option, you can either delete DPF only, or you can choose to delete everything, SCR, DPF, NOX, etc..

DPF emulator is an electronic device which will disconnect DPF system and simulate its performance signals to the vehicle’s ECU. There are DPF emulators that will disable DPF system only, leaving other emission control system parts in working order such as SCR or NOx.. and there are also emulators that will disable the whole emission system together with DPF.

DPF stands for Diesel Particulate Filter. DPF filters are only in diesel vehicles and are designed to prevent soot, or particulate matter, from entering the atmosphere. Diesel engines produce vast amounts of such soot and therefore it is important it does not get into the air that we all breathe.

Nox emulator is a small electronic device which will disconnect nox sensor or sensors on the vehicle at the same time sending signals to the vehicle’s ECU emulating normal nox sensor performance. Simply put, it will fool the ECU in thinking nox sensor (s) are performing as should when in fact these will be disconnected completely.

Nox emulator comes as complete nox sensor unit (just as original) To install it, you would simply replace your existing nox sensor with nox emulator unit which would plug in just as original. You can also purchase it in PCB form (printed circuit board) in which case you would need to remove your nox sensor and swap circuit boards over.

Can Smart nox emulators will only disconnect nox sensor (s) and nothing else. So the SCR/AdBlue system will still work as it was and adblue liquid will still be consumed as normal.

Nitrogen oxide sensor, commonly known and NOx sensor, is an important part of the NOx reduction treatment system used in diesel vehicles which are equipped with SCR system. NOx sensor measures NOx gas concentration emitted from the engine and in turn sends signals to the ECU telling it how much DEF should be injected into the exhaust before it enters SCR system, this way helping to determine the optimum amount of urea that needs to be injected.

Depending on vehicle make, model and emissions standard there may be one or two NOx sensors installed. NOx sensors will be installed to all diesel vehicles starting with EURO 5 emissions standard. EURO 4 standard vehicles does already have SCR system, but no NOx. EURO 5 & EURO 6 standard vehicles will all have either one or two NOx sensors.

Yes, it is possible to restore Adblue system to default condition after it was disconnected using an adblue emulator or if SCR MAP was deleted via remapping the ECU file. To restore adblue system, which was disconnected by adblue emulator, you will need to remove adblue emulator, reconnect all wiring as it was prior to installing emulator, and re-insert fuses or otherwise reconnect any power supply that was disconnected during emulator installation. Once all of this is done your SCR system will be back to how it was before installing adblue emulator.

It is also possible to recover SCR system on vehicles that had it removed/deleted via remapping the ECU file. In this case an original SCR map/file will need to be uploaded back into the ECU file, this will return vehicle to original/default condition with SCR system being back as it was before.

Yes, it is possible to delete Adblue/SCR map from the vehicle’s ECU. This can be done with most vehicles such as trucks, cars, vans, buses, agricultural and construction machinery, boats, etc.. To do this, ECU file needs to be             flashed/downloaded, then modified by removing SCR/Adblue map and uploaded back. This can be done with all or any of the emission system components, such as SCR delete, NOX delete, DPF delete, EGR delete etc..

Yes, it is possible to disconnect/disable adblue system on most vehicles and machinery equipped with SCR system. Various adblue disconnection/disabling options are available to cars, trucks, agricultural and construction vehicles, buses and other transport. The two most popular and straight forward ways of disconnecting adblue/SCR system are: you can install adblue emulator or delete adblue by remapping/modifying the ECU file.

No, once adblue emulator is installed to a vehicle, adblue system will be disconnected/disabled and no adblue liquid will be used.

If we are talking about EURO 4 & EURO 5 emissions standard lorries, we find vehicles with Cummins engines, such as DAF LF45, DAF LF55, DAF CF65, and also Mercedes Benz trucks are the most difficult and time consuming to install adblue emulator to. For example, if adblue emulator installation to Volvo, Renault or MAN lorry would take about 20-30 minutes, you should estimate at least three times as much time for installation on above mentioned vehicles.

For EURO 6 emission standard vehicles, Volvo retarders models are the most difficult to install adblue emulator to in our opinion. Although we can offer a choice of wired and plug & drive adblue emulators for non retarder Volvo trucks, no plug & go emulators are available for retarder models. The only solution here is wired emulator and we would recommend such job is only carried out by professional auto electrician, or at least someone with some electrician skills..

Plug & Drive adblue emulators, also called plug & play or plug & go adblue emulators are the easiest and quickest to install. Installing such emulator would normally require plugging it in and in some cases you may also need to disconnect power by removing a fuse or fuses or doing so other way as described in instructions.

Just as described in the above question/answer (‘how to install adblue emulator’) connecting adblue emulator to your vehicle will depend on various factors such as vehicle make, model, euro standard and emulator type. Connecting adblue emulator, especially wired version, is not the easiest of jobs on some vehicles and therefor at least some auto electrician skills would be required. In short, hard-wiring adblue emulator in is connecting 4-8 wires depending on the vehicle and emulator type. In most cases this is a straight forward process especially if installation instructions were provided by the supplier.

All of our adblue emulators does come with detailed instructions which will have pics showing precisely which wire goes where. So connecting our adblue emulator should not be that difficult if you follow our instructions. In addition, you will also be provided access to our dedicated tech support platform where you will be able to get quick answers and advice should you need it. For those who would like an easier installation our plug & go adblue emulators would be ideal choice as these would only need to be slotted in with no wiring required at all.

There is no single universal way to install adblue emulator, this depends on many factors such as vehicle make, model, euro standard, the emulator type etc.. Wired emulators would have to be wired in, that means connecting between 4 and 8 wires, depending on the vehicle. Older EURO 5 standard vehicles would normally have 4 wires to connect: positive, earth, can hi & can lo, and later EURO 6 standard vehicles would need to have 6-8 wires connected as there would be two or even three can lines that the adblue emulator would have to be connected to.

We will provide detailed installation instructions with every emulator purchased from us and we also have a dedicated tech support platform online where our customers will receive professional tech support and advice for free. There are two main emulator types are: wired adblue emulator & plug & play adblue emulator. Wired emulator would have to be wired in and plug & play emulator would simply plug in with no wiring required. This is the only difference between the two, both will do the the same job in disconnecting SCR system and emulating signals to the ECU via Can Lines, what is different between these is the actual installation only.

Adblue emulator and SCR emulator are the same thing, it is an electronic device consisting of PCB (printed circuit board) plastic or metal casing and wires. It is designed to bypass SCR/ADBLUE system. Depending on vehicle make, model and adblue emulator type, it will bypass either only the SCR system, or the whole emissions control system including NOx, DPF etc..

Adblue emulator is programmed to simulate all signals that the SCR system, and various components within it, sends to the vehicle’s ECU. These signals are sent via CAN bus lines. CAN bus is a message/signal based protocol developed to allow electronic control units (ECU’s) and other devices within the vehicle to communicate with each other. Once emulator is connected you will need to disconnect SCR system, this way allowing emulator to send signals instead. So your vehicle will not go in limp mode, there will be no emissions related error codes on your dash and your adblue level will be showing, but in actual fact your SCR system will be fully disconnected and no adblue liquid will be used.

In short, adblue emulator will trick vehicle’s ECU into thinking everything within the SCR system is working as should when in fact the SCR system will be disconnected completely.

SCR emulator, also called Adblue emulator, is an electronic device consisting of PCB (printed circuit board) plastic or metal casing and wires. It is designed to bypass SCR/ADBLUE system. Depending on vehicle make, model and SCR emulator type, it will bypass either only the SCR system, or the whole emissions control system including NOx, DPF etc..

SCR emulator is programmed to simulate all signals that the SCR system, and various components within it, sends to the vehicle’s ECU. So your vehicle will not go into limp mode, there will be no emissions related error codes on your dash and your adblue level will be showing, but in actual fact your SCR system will be fully disconnected and no adblue liquid will be used.

In short, SCR emulator will trick vehicle’s ECU into thinking everything within the SCR system is working as should when in fact the SCR system will be disconnected completely.

SCR stands for ‘Selective Catalytic Reduction’ SCR system is an active emissions control system that reduces exhaust emissions of nitrogen oxides. The SCR system has several components which are working together with other parts/components of the emissions control system. SCR system is not universal for all makes, each manufacturer has its own variations of the type of different components in the SCR system and how these work/communicate with each other.

Exhaust gases flow out of the engine into the SCR system where aqueous urea (known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid, or DEF) is sprayed onto a special catalyst. This sets off a chemical reaction which converts nitrogen oxides into nitrogen, water, and very small amounts of carbon dioxide, the natural components of the air that we breathe. In later, EURO 6 emissions standard vehicles, the gasses also pass through a particulate filter (known as DPF) somewhere in the system and then are expelled through the vehicle exhaust.
